My Story

Hello, I’m Jennifer. Welcome to Upainted. I run a furniture up-cycling business, based in the north of Ireland, specialising in transforming tired or plain furniture into bespoke pieces.

I began painting and revamping my own furniture, learning from trial and error over 20 years ago. This led to painting for friends and family and ultimately to the creation of Upainted in early 2020. I’ve perfected my skills through a variety of courses and by networking with other professional painters gaining tips and friends along the way. I’ve recently been shortlisted as a finalist in the Fliprunway Refinishing Awards, an industry award for furniture painters in the UK and Ireland, in the natural wood category.

I adore vintage furniture, especially Mid-Century Modern styles, and love transforming them with a high-quality finish into statement pieces that suit the modern home. I work closely with clients mostly on a commission basis, transforming their furniture to suit their home and unique style. I also create one-off pieces for sale.  These are listed both on my website and Etsy shop.

I‘m passionate about encouraging the use of second-hand furniture in homes. I was delighted last year to be invited to create a blog post of my love of saving damaged and neglected furniture from landfill as part of the National Reuse Month campaign led by My Waste Ireland.

Second-hand doesn’t have to mean dull and boring. Get in touch and we can work together to create something you will treasure.

‘Why buy new when you can have unique!’

My PROcess

With so many incredible products on the market today the ways to restyle and revamp furniture is endless. I mainly use water based mineral paints and topcoats in my work. They’re kinder to the environment and give excellent coverage. I expose the beauty of the wood where possible and enhance the furniture with a selection of transfers, moulds, stencils, and decorative finishes.
This brings the furniture back to life and creates bespoke statement pieces. If you see something you like I can create a similar look for you, but not identical as each piece of furniture I work on is unique to the client. If you want to know more about how to commission a piece of furniture for yourself get in touch.
